Earlier this year, the State of Illinois created an initiative to foster the link between arts and economic development. “The arts inspire us, sooth us, provoke us, involve us, and connect us. But they also create jobs and contribute to the economy,” said Robert Lynch, President and CEO of Americans for the Arts.

Big Machines
Big Machines, Inc., one of the fastest growing companies in the U.S. in the past five years, expanded its Deerfield headquarters by 54% in the Deerbrook Corporate Center.  The company, founded in 2000, has more than 200 employees and plans to hire at least an additional 60 people as a result of this expansion to 52,000 s.f. of office space, according to a company spokesperson. Big Machines has been on  Inc Magazine’s list of fastest-growing businesses each year for the past five years.

Biotech in the Midwest

Biotech’s Economic Engine
The superpower of biotechnology is not, as many assume, California or the East Coast. It’s the Midwest “Super Cluster,” made up of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin. The Midwest Super Cluster is home to 16,800 biotech entities – more than twice as many as California with 7,500, and the East Coast cluster with 7,100.

Lake County Business Focus

Lake County Partners, Mesirow Financial and Quarles & Brady LLP hosted a new 2013 Lake County Business Focus breakfast event on Wednesday, June 19 at the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort.  This year’s topic focused on health care reform and included several industry experts who shared their perspectives on how health care reform will impact businesses.
